Cindy Salm Bauer, MD Board Certified Pediatric and Adult Allergist/Immunologist Division of Allergy and Immunology, Department of Pediatric Pulmonology Phoenix Children’s Hospital Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Child Health, University of Arizona College of Medicine About the author: Dr. Cindy Salm Bauer is a board-certified Allergist/Immunologist practicing at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. I treat children with both allergic and non-allergic nasal and sinus disease. |
Each day in the Allergy/Immunology Clinic at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital, I see countless children with nasal symptoms such as congestion (“nasal stuffiness”), rhinorrhea (“runny nose”), and sneezing. Some will also have a nasal tone to their speech, mouth breath, snore, and/or have nose bleeds. Others may have recurrent infections such as sinusitus, otitis, and more. From infants to teenagers, these symptoms can be quite severe and lessen quality of life.
Whether due to allergy, irritants, infection, or other causes, I recommend use of the NeilMed products routinely. For infants/toddlers, I have seen great improvement with the NasaDrops and NasaMist. Parents will often use this in conjunction with a nasal suction device. For older children and teens, I recommend the Sinus Rinse Kids or Sinus Rinse. All children are different and hence some are only able to perform a nasal rinse while others are able to perform the full sinus rinse. The other product that is often useful for children with nose bleeds (whether due to nose picking, dry climate, or other condition) is the NasoGel. Due to the complexity of describing the techniques for using these products while in the office setting, I frequently suggest watching the NeilMed instructional videos.
Feedback that I receive from patients on the NeilMed products highlight the fact that it is a safe, cost-effective, and non-medicated method of treating symptoms. Of note, depending on the specific condition, I often recommend additional treatment(s), such as nasal corticosteroids, antihistamines, allergen immunotherapy, etc. be used in addition to the above mentioned NeilMed products. Fortunately, the NeilMed products are well tolerated when used in conjunction with other treatment modalities yielding great outcomes for my patients!
